Paddington Gold Mine

The Paddington Mine and ore processing plant is located 35 kilometres northwest of Kalgoorlie, Goldfields Limited had 87.7% ownership.

The mine was developed in 1984 on the basis of a low grade, large tonnage, open pit mine with the potential to mine underground. The processing plant was expanded in 1995 which increased the design capacity of the plant to in excess of 3 million tonnes per annum.

Paddington Gold Mine had a major shift in relation to safety as a result of new management, the management needed to identify exactly what the management team's individual legislative responsibilities were.

Paddington was an open pit mining operation. The pits Paddington 1 and Paddington 2 were expanded in 1994 but following the decline in the gold price in 1997 a reassessment was carried out on the economics of the operation.

Identification and Documentation of Management's Legislative Responsibilities

The Paddington Gold Mine Manager wanted to identify and document the management team's individual legislative responsibilities and include them into their Job Descriptions.

Ringshaw Consulting requested a list of the positions relating to the request to be provided by Paddington Gold, once this was done one of our associates subsequently researched the appropriate information from the Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994 and The Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 1996.

The relevant legislative information was documented against each of the positions and forwarded to the Mine Manger.

A list of the legislative responsibilities was incorporated into the Safety Component (in the Job Descriptions) of the position holders duty of care responsibilities.
