Duty of Care

The Dampier Salt Human Resource Superintendent requested Ringshaw Consulting to develop a training course that would address Dampier Salt's need to educate their entire workforce in relation to the duty of care requirements outlined in the Western Australian Occupational Safety and Health Legislation (The Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994 and associated legislation).

This course was to compliment Dampier Salt's Induction process for all existing and new employees.

Neil Ringshaw consulted with the appropriate stakeholders and as a result of discussions with Dampier Operations Safety and Training Manager, Ringshaw Consulting sent a proposed course outline to suit Dampier Salt's needs.

In addition to participant workbooks with review questions, the classroom sessions included actual case studies for review and discussion, and reviewed precedents in the area of foreseeability, reasonableness, etc.

The course "The Legislation and You" was accepted and training of all Dampier Salt personnel began immediately, a series of workshops were conducted at the Dampier Operations and then at the Lake McLeod Operations out of Carnarvon.

The Perth office personnel were included in the process; and each year (or more often, as required) Ringshaw Consulting would go to the appropriate sites to conduct ongoing training for all new employees the most recent being held at Lake McLeod.

The course content was updated on a regular basis to ensure currency.
