The head office is at the John Tonkin Water Centre in Leederville, Perth, with regional offices at Balcatta and Canning Vale in Perth and at Karratha, Bunbury, Kalgoorlie, Northam, Albany and Geraldton.

The Water Corporation's task is to provide a reliable and safe drinking water supply to a population of some 1.7 million, as well as wastewater, irrigation and drainage services to households, businesses and farms across the state. The region the Corporation serves covers one third of the Australian continent and is among the largest, most diverse and physically challenging in the world. The Corporation is one of the largest business enterprises in Western Australia, employing around 2,000 people and with total assets of more than $8 billion.

Effective Safety Strategies

The Water Corporation South West Region requested Ringshaw Consulting to develop a training course that would address Water Corporation's (South West Region) need to educate their entire workforce in relation to the duty of care requirements outlined in the Western Australian Occupational Safety and Health Legislation.

The aim of the course was to familiarise the participants with the concept of Common Law and how it relates to their personal duty of care in and out of the workplace and to expose line management to their individual responsibilities under the OSH Legislation, to assist in initiating and maintaining responsible and effective safety strategies within their areas of responsibility.

Neil Ringshaw consulted with the appropriate stakeholders and as a result of discussions with Human Resource and Safety personnel, subsequently Ringshaw Consulting developed a suggested course outline to address the needs identified.

The course Common Law, Legislation and You (Water Corporation Specific) was accepted and training of all appropriate personnel began immediately, a series of courses were conducted at Bunbury.
